You've probably already heard about "Low Volume" quilts. They feature nice quiet colors. The quilt above is a beautiful example, made by Letty at Happy Dance Quilting.
And here's a Low Volume quilt by Rita at Red Pepper Quilts (above). I love her quilts. Her designs are so fresh and bright. Isn't that b & w striped binding perfect?
This Low Volume zig-zag quilt top (above) was made by Patty the Quilt Lady in Ohio. Patty recently came to the rescue when I was making a silk quilt. She sent me some colors that I was missing. Thanks, Patty!
Lynne from California has some gorgeous photos of her Low Volume quilts like the one above on her blog Pieceful.
So yes, I'm stoked about making my own Low Volume quilt. I'm keeping an eye out for light fabrics and thinking about what design might work best. Have you made one?

These are really lovely...I have been thinking about doing a low volume quilt...but I have so many bright fabrics!!
OK, I have to chuckle. Now they're "Low Volume" quilts. Previously they were "Watercolor" or "Shabby Chic". I guess the new names help sell new books, magazines and fabrics, right? 8-)
As a designer, I prefer "high volume" quilts which show off my designs better. Low contrast quilts to me just support the "civilian" questions about why we bother to cut apart fabric only to sew it back together.
Luckily, however, we have lots of choices, so each of us can make the quilts that appeal to her -- under whatever name! 8-)
This is Patty the Quilt Lady from Ohio - thanks for the props! I am always glad to share whether it be knowledge or a scrap. The beaded pins you sent me as a surprise thank you in return will always hold a special place in my studio! I have a wedding quilt to make soon and it will be a low volume quilt made with some prints and a lot of solids.
Yes, they are lovely. I made one recently, but some red popped in there. Not sure if it still qualifies. There's a flickr group of them too.
This is the first time I here about Low Volume Quilts. They are very nice.
Hi there! Thanks for the link : )
These quilts are addicting to make! Maybe because as a quilter it's always about contrast. This is more about softness and blending. Because it's different, it shakes up your world a little. That makes it FUN!
Happy sewing!!!!!
Thanks for the mention :) That quilt has been a big hit with people - I find that really exciting!
This is a new concept for me but I love it. Thanks for sharing all of these.
